11 Perfect Ginger Ale Drinks
Do you like mixed drinks with ginger ale? Me too, especially if the ginger ale complements well with the other great spirits in the mixed drink. Ginger ale is a ginger-flavoured carbonated soft drink, which is typically very sweet and popular in drink recipes.
The key to creating the perfect drink mix lies in the compatibility of the ingredients. All the ingredients must be precisely measured so that you can taste each one of them.
If you’re out of ideas about what to serve in your next cocktail party, here are some mixed drink recipes you can try at home.
1. Absolut Punch Tangerine
Absolut suggests making a tangerine punch with these ingredients:
- 2 ounces ginger ale
- 2 ounces of Mandarin Absolute
- 1 1/2 ounces pineapple juice
Absolut Mandarina is an orange flavored vodka that imparts a dominant tangerine and citrus flavor to your punch. Unlike other flavored vodkas, this brand does not contain any added sugar. If you want convenience, you can choose pineapple juice that is sold in cans.
To make this recipe, simply add all the ingredients to a highball glass filled with ice and garnish with a lemon wedge and lime wedge. If you don’t know how to create a lemon wheel, you can see how it’s done in this video.
2. Mock Whiskey
If you want to make an imitation whiskey without the alcohol, you can make this wonderful imitation whiskey recipe. All you need are these ingredients:
- 1 ounce lime juice
- ginger ale
- 1 wedge of lime, for the garnish
In a glass with rocks, fill it with ice cubes. Then, using a citrus juice, squeeze some lime juice and pour it into the stone glass. Top the mixture with ginger ale and garnish with a lime wedge.
It is ideal for lime juice to get the best of its aroma, acid and flavor. To get as much juice as possible, press it into a surface and roll it between your palms. You can also let the lime juice sit for another four hours for better flavor.
3. Border Crossing
If you like tequila, you can improve it by making the Border Crossing recipe. Here are the ingredients:
- 1 1/2 parts of tequila
- 1 part lime juice
- 1/2 part honey
- 4 dashes of orange bitters
- ginger ale
- 2 whole blueberries and a slice of lime, to garnish
In a cocktail shaker, fill with ice cubes, then some freshly squeezed lemon juice, honey, and orange bitters. Shake with all your might and strain into a chilled wine glass. Fill with ginger ale and garnish with blueberries and a lime wedge.
For this recipe, you can use any tequila you like, but I prefer to use the Gold type because it is cheaper. You may notice its golden color, but in reality, most of it comes from the added caramel coloring. This is especially true for brands that are not marked as “100% agave.”
4. Special Apple
Make your apple juice more interesting by flavoring it with ginger ale. To be specific, here are the ingredients you need:
- 6 ounces of apple juice
- 2 ounces ginger ale
- 1 ounce cranberry juice
- 1 slice of orange, to garnish
In a highball glass, fill with crushed ice. Add all the ingredients except the garnish and stir with a cocktail spoon or whatever long spoon you have. Garnish with an orange slice.
If you want a cheerier version of your spiced apple, you can substitute an ounce of rum for the cranberry juice. I usually do this when I like to taste a hint of alcohol in my spiced apple.
5. Amber Dream
For those who want whiskey in their cocktails, the Amber Dream is a great match for you. You only need the following ingredients:
- 2 parts whiskey
- 1 1/2 parts mint brandy
- 10 parts ginger ale
In an ice-filled highball glass, add whiskey and mint schnapps. Fill with ginger ale and serve. For a good summer drink, chill the ingredients before mixing.
When selecting for the best type of whiskey for your drink, choose one that belongs to where you live. For example, if you live in the United States, try any brand of bourbon, or if you live anywhere in Canada, try Scotch. This way, you will be able to find quality bottles at affordable prices. On the other hand, mint brandy is a mint-flavored alcoholic drink.
6. Suffering Bastard
If you want a strong combination of ingredients, then you can try a glass of Bastard Suffering. Here are the ingredients you need to prepare:
- 2 ounces of rum
- 2 ounces of gin
- 2 ounces ginger ale
- 1 ounce lime juice
- 2 bitter dashes
- A sprig of mint, to garnish
To do this first, take a few ice cubes into a tall glass. Next, add the bitters, ginger ale, rum, lemon juice, and gin. You can garnish this drink with a sprig and mint.
This drink was made by Shepheard Hotel Long Bar bartender Joe Scialom in the late 1940s. It was intended as a hangover cure, but is now featured as one of three parts in the Embassy Drinks series. from Rongovian that will knock you out forever. The other two drinks included in the series are the Dying Bastard (#7) and the Dead Bastard (#8).
7. Tricky Bastard
In addition to the Suffering Bastard, Joe Scialom also did the Dying Bastard. In this recipe, brandy is added to the mix. Here are the proper ingredients:
- 2 ounces of brandy
- 2 ounces of rum
- 2 ounces of gin
- 2 ounces ginger ale
- 1 ounce lime juice
- 2 bitter dashes
Lime Wheel, for garnish In an ice-filled highball glass, pour the bitters, brandy, ginger ale, rum, fresh lime juice, and gin. You can garnish it with a file wheel if you prefer.
For the brandy, I prefer to use a cheaper brand as its flavor would disappear among the rest of the ingredients. One particular brand I use is Gautier Cognac VSOP which has a light aroma of vanilla, citrus and apple.
8. Dead Bastard
To complete Joe Scialom’s deadly trio, the Dead Bastard adds bourbon whiskey to the mix. According to the comment made by recipe contributor John Lara on Bar None Drinks, only a few people have successfully completed the series and made their way into their car. Most of the time, they end up somewhere else when they wake up.
Here are the ingredients for this recipe:
- 2 ounces of bourbon whiskey
- 2 ounces of brandy
- 2 ounces of rum
- 2 ounces of gin
- 2 ounces ginger ale
- 1 ounce lime juice
- 2 bitter dashes
- 1 mint leaf, for the garnish
Fill your highball glass with ice cubes. Next, add the bourbon whiskey, brandy, rum, gin, bitters, lemon juice, and ginger ale. Stir and garnish with a mint leaf for garnish.
I would prefer to use a light rum for this specific recipe because the combination of four spirits - brandy, rum, gin, and bourbon whiskey - is too strong to handle. It is also better to use fresh lemon juice instead of canned or bottled ones because it makes the drink more vibrant.
9. Special Ginger Mojito
Add a refreshing touch to your mojito by adding some ginger ale. Here are the specific ingredients:
- 6 ounces spiced rum
- 1 1/2 ounces simple syrup
- 1 splash ginger ale
- 6 mint leaves
- 1 lime
Using a cocktail mixer or the handle of a rolling pin, mix together the simple syrup, mint, and lime juice in a cocktail shaker. Never over mint or you’ll mix bitter-tasting chlorophyll into your drink. You can see how the mess is done in this video here.
Next, pour in the spiced rum and crushed ice and shake the mixture vigorously for about 10 seconds. Into your highball glass, strain the mixed drink and fill with ginger ale.
10. Ginger Snap
You might think the ginger snap is reserved for the ladies because of its dainty name, but honestly, this packs a punch. Lea Perrins suggests using ginger beer instead of ginger ale. Here are the ingredients you need to prepare:
- 2 parts black strap rum
- 1 part cinnamon brandy
- 4 parts ginger ale
- Lime wedges, for decoration
In a chilled highball glass or whatever you like, put dark rum, cinnamon schnapps and ginger ale. Using a cocktail spoon, stir to mix well. To serve, you can garnish this drink with lime wedges.
11. Cream Soda
This cream and soda cocktail is tasty and refreshing. If you’re using diet ginger ale, this drink may be low in calories. Here are the ingredients:
- 1 1/2 parts vanilla vodka
- 5 parts ginger ale
In a tall, chilled glass of your choice, pour the vanilla vodka and ginger ale. Stir, serve and enjoy.
Ginger ale is responsible for the taste of this drink. If you want to make it sweeter, then add more. If you want a cherry cream soda, consider adding some maraschino cherries as a garnish.
