Can cooked lamb be frozen?

Although it is considered safe to eat one year after it has been in the freezer, we do not recommend it.

It won’t have the same taste and texture as it did when it was first bought, and it could be potentially dangerous to your health, even though it looks fine.

Does freezing lamb affect the flavor?

Although freezing the lamb will not alter the nutritional value of the meat, it may cause a loss of flavor, to some extent.

The ice crystals formed by freezing go through the meat, causing the fibers to break. This means that it could lose some of its natural flavors.

How do you get rid of the smell of lamb meat?

If you want to eliminate the smell of lamb, because this meat, in particular, is quite strong, we suggest an unconventional method: soak it in vodka or other cooking alcohols for an hour.

This will help to remove excess blood and hide excess odor. Depending on the type of alcohol you choose, soaking the meat can even give your lamb an extra layer of flavor.

If you don’t want to waste vodka or risk using the above method, salt raw lamb to remove some of the blood before cooking, and add rosemary, garlic, or lemon juice to the meat.

This should significantly reduce the unpleasant odor.

How do you know if lamb meat is fresh?

Unfortunately, many stores sell lamb meat that has already been frozen once. They do not specify it on the label, but as we have said, you can only freeze lamb meat a second time after cooking it.

In other words, you should always know what you are buying. Here’s how to tell if lamb meat is completely fresh or has been frozen in the past.

You just have to press the meat with your finger. The fresh meat must not form a clear indentation, and the blood from the meat must not fill it. 

If you see that the indentation is made clear and sharp without the meat returning to its normal shape by filling with blood, then the meat has been frozen.
