Can eggs be reheated?

Most egg dishes reheat very well, and most of them can be reheated in a number of ways. You can make your egg dishes ahead of time and reheat them when you need them. The exception to this rule is boiled eggs. They are the most difficult type of boiled egg to reheat effectively. However, you can do it if you are careful with the process.

The Ultimate Guide to Reheating Eggs

Eggs can be made in many different ways. The best thing is that you can customize almost any type of eggs according to your taste preferences.

There are literally over 100 ways to enjoy eggs. Obviously, today we are not going to talk about 100 egg dishes. However, we hope to capture the most popular egg dishes being served and bring you the best reheating insights available.

Here are some ideas of the multitude of ways eggs can be prepared.

  • boiled
  • fried
  • scrambled
  • Tortilla
  • poached
  • Quiche
  • Frittata
  • Souffle

These are just some of the ways eggs can be turned into delicious meals. As we go through this guide, we hope we can help you reheat many of these types of eggs.

Can boiled eggs be reheated?

Boiled eggs are perhaps one of the simplest forms of eggs. You can boil them ahead of time and they stay fresh in the fridge for several days. You can even freeze the yolks of your boiled eggs with relative success.

Boiled eggs are pretty easy to reheat, but there’s a trick.  When you reheat boiled eggs in the microwave, you risk the egg exploding. Can you imagine that mess? Although you can reheat them in the microwave, the best way to reheat hard-boiled eggs is using boiling water.

We don’t recommend using the microwave to reheat the boiled egg unless you have time to let it rest afterwards. The explosion effect that occurs when reheating them in the microwave can be caused by biting into them, and that’s something you don’t want.

The best way to enjoy a boiled egg afterwards is to eat it cold or reheat it using the hot water method. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Place the egg in a container that will not be damaged by heat.
  2. Boil the water plain, either on the stove or in the microwave.
  3. Pour the boiling water over the egg until it is completely submerged.
  4. Cover the egg (a paper towel works well for this purpose)
  5. Let the egg sit in the hot water for about 10 minutes.
  6. Peel it and enjoy it.

This method of reheating takes a bit of time, but it is the safest and most effective if you insist on reheating a boiled egg. If you don’t want to eat the egg cold but don’t want to mess with reheating, you can also leave it out at room temperature for a while before eating.

Please note that the microwave is an option, but not recommended. If you decide to try the microwave despite our warnings, peel it first. Then wrap it in a paper towel and use short increments of time. 15-30 seconds should be enough and you are less likely to experience an egg explosion.

Can fried eggs be reheated?

Fried eggs are sometimes difficult to make because it is so easy to break the yolk during the cooking process. When it comes to reheating fried eggs , the process is simple . We can’t promise that the yolk will stay intact when you make the eggs, but we can share with you the steps to reheat fried eggs.

Did you know that you can even reheat fried eggs to enjoy later?

Most often, eggs are fried in oil, fat, or butter. This brings out the flavor of the eggs. This part of the process also helps preserve the eggs and helps keep them moist so they don’t become dry and rubbery.

Reheating fried eggs can be done in the microwave, oven, or on the stove. We recommend the kitchen, but we will guide you through the three methods so that you have the options you need . We will also give you the best instructions for fried eggs.

In this case, we prefer to use the microwave to reheat the egg, but you can use whatever method you prefer and get great results.

Reheating fried eggs in the kitchen

  1. Heat a minimal amount of oil or butter over medium heat in a skillet.
  2. Add the fried egg to the heated pan.
  3. Let the egg cook until hot. This should only take 2-5 minutes. You don’t need to flip the egg (especially if you have a yolk you don’t want to break).
  4. If the top of the egg doesn’t seem to get hot, cover the pan for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Remember that at this point you are only heating the fried egg and not cooking it, so it shouldn’t take long.

Reheat Fried Eggs in the Microwave

  1. Place the fried egg on a microwave-safe plate.
  2. Cover the egg with a slightly damp paper towel. This will help retain moisture so the egg doesn’t get rubbery.
  3. Reheat for 30 seconds to 2 minutes, depending on how hot you want the egg to be. Check the egg every 30 seconds to make sure it’s not overcooked.
  4. Don’t overheat it, especially if the fried egg yolk is runny.

Reheat fried eggs in the oven

  1. Line a pan with aluminum foil or parchment paper. Coat the pan or liner with cooking spray.
  2. Place the fried eggs in the pan.
  3. Cover the pan with aluminum foil to keep the moisture in and to prevent the fried eggs from becoming rubbery.
  4. Bake at 350 for 10-15 minutes until eggs are hot.
  5. Remember that you are not cooking the eggs, just heating them. Observe them carefully and see how they are doing after 10 minutes.

Reheating fried eggs is easy, but requires some care in the process. Fried eggs can be questionable because there are several types of fried eggs . You can have them easy, medium, hard and starry. Handle them with care and be sure to store them well.

We wanted to talk specifically about fried eggs. These are perhaps the most difficult because you don’t want to break the yolk until you are ready to eat them.

Reheat the scrambled eggs

  1. We recommend the microwave to reheat fried eggs.
  2. Preheat the dish for about 30 seconds and rub a small amount of butter on the surface of the dish.
  3. Place the egg on the plate.
  4. Heat the egg in the microwave for 30-45 seconds. You should check it at 30 and if it’s hot enough, it’s done. You have to be careful not to overheat these eggs because the yolk could burst if you’re not careful.
  5. Let the egg sit for 30-60 seconds after heating it to make sure the yolk doesn’t explode when you cut into it.

Can scrambled eggs be reheated?

Scrambled eggs are perhaps the easiest type of egg to make and reheat. They are very versatile. You can do whatever you want with the scrambled eggs, even add your own custom ingredients to the mix.

Try adding your favorite vegetables, such as mushrooms, peppers or onions, to your scrambled eggs.  Also, you can season the scrambled eggs. Some people also add milk or cheese to their scrambled eggs.

The way to make scrambled eggs is entirely up to you. The reheating of your scrambled eggs shouldn’t vary much, regardless of what ingredients you added to the eggs when making them.

As long as you store your eggs well, reheating them should be a doddle. Scrambled eggs can be reheated in the microwave, oven, or on the stove.

We really like the microwave because it’s so simple, but the other methods work pretty well too.

Reheat scrambled eggs in the microwave

  1. Place the scrambled eggs in a microwave-safe bowl or container. We recommend something round and slightly deeper than a traditional plate.
  2. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap.
  3. Heat in the microwave for 20 seconds.
  4. Stir the eggs with a fork and check the temperature.
  5. Continue heating as needed in 20 second intervals. After each interval, stir the eggs and check the temperature.
  6. When the eggs reach the desired heat, remove the plastic wrap and enjoy!

Reheat scrambled eggs in the oven

  1. Prepare a baking sheet or skillet by spraying it with cooking spray.
  2. Pour the scrambled eggs into the pan and spread them out in a thin layer.
  3. Cover the pan with aluminum foil.
  4. Bake the scrambled eggs for 15-20 minutes, stirring halfway.
  5. Take the eggs out of the oven, stir and enjoy.

Reheat scrambled eggs on the stove

  1. Heat some butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the scrambled eggs to the pan.
  3. Reduce heat to low-medium and cover skillet.
  4. Cook for 5 minutes like this.
  5. Remove the lid and stir the eggs.
  6. Continue heating until the eggs reach the desired temperature.

Reheating scrambled eggs is very easy. You can hardly mess up scrambled eggs if you follow the reheating process. Scrambled eggs also freeze well and you can use these reheating steps right from the freezer if you store them in the freezer.

Plus, scrambled eggs are less likely to turn out crunchy or rubbery, no matter how you store or reheat them.

Can poached eggs be reheated?

Some people are afraid to make poached eggs. Maybe it’s because they don’t really understand how to make a poached egg. It’s true that poached eggs can be difficult to make, but with a little practice and effort, you’ll be able to make the best poached eggs in no time.

Poached eggs are another type of egg that is easy to reheat. You can even microwave poached eggs initially if you like . Of course, you have to know the secrets to succeeding with your poached eggs.

We are not going to explain how to make poached eggs to begin with, but we have all the keys to be able to reheat your poached eggs and enjoy them later.

Poached eggs are relatively similar to fried eggs, they are simply prepared using a different method: using boiled water. The end result will be a cooked egg white with a runny yolk inside.

However, poached eggs are fluffier than regular fried eggs, and you don’t need oil or butter to make them.

If you haven’t worked with poached eggs much, it’s best to store them in water to preserve the nature of the egg.

When it comes to reheating poached eggs, we prefer to reheat them on the stove. This method usually gives the best reheating results. You can also reheat them in the microwave, so we’ll cover both methods.

reheating poached eggs in the kitchen

  1. Use a medium skillet or pot.
  2. Fill the pot with plenty of water.
  3. Bring the water to a slight boil.
  4. Place the egg in the simmering water for 1-2 minutes.
  5. You can place several eggs in the water at once and they will cook without a problem.

This process is quite similar to the initial poaching process, but with a much shorter amount of time. Also, you can reheat several at once.

The egg will taste the same as a freshly poached egg; nobody will know that you have made it in advance and you have simply reheated it.

Can you reheat a quiche?

Quiche is an interesting egg dish because it’s not just eggs. Quiche can be made in a number of ways, but regardless of how it is made, it has eggs as the main ingredient.

The quiche can contain a variety of other ingredients. It usually has milk and cheese and then an assortment of meats or vegetables. The way to make the quiche is up to you. In fact, the traditional quiche used to have custard.

Quiche is a baked egg dish.  The mixture containing the egg, meats, vegetables, and seasonings is poured into a puff pastry crust and baked to perfection.

When you are going to reheat the quiche , we recommend that you use the oven.  You can also reheat individual slices in the microwave if you need a simple fix. The quiche can be stored in the refrigerator or frozen for preservation.

Regardless of how you store the quiche, you can reheat it the same way. If it is frozen, it may take a little longer to warm up to return to a hot plate for serving.

Reheat the quiche in the oven

  1. Make sure the quiche is in an oven-safe container.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  3. Heat the quiche uncovered in the oven for 15-20 minutes. If your quiche is frozen, you will probably need to reheat it for 30-35 minutes.
  4. Let it rest for 2 to 5 minutes after removing it from the oven.
  5. Serve and enjoy!

Reheat the quiche in the microwave

  1. Transfer a single serving of quiche to a microwave-safe plate.
  2. Reheat the quiche on 50% power if possible.
  3. Heat for 3 minutes at 50% power.
  4. If the quiche needs more time, heat it in 30-second intervals until it reaches your desired temperature.
  5. Remove from microwave and allow to sit for 1-2 minutes.
  6. Serve and enjoy!

Don’t be intimidated by the quiche. It is quite similar to a casserole. The most important thing is the crust and work to prevent everything from getting soggy.  However, if you store your quiche well, you shouldn’t have any problems when you try to reheat it.

Can the tortillas be reheated?

The omelette is another versatile egg dish that you can do a lot with. Making omelettes can be challenging because there is a certain art to cooking the egg and then adding the ingredients and finishing the cooking process.

However, if you do manage to make an omelet (or buy a great omelet), you shouldn’t let that effort go to waste.

The tortillas reheat very well. In fact, they reheat better in the microwave.  You can also reheat them on the stove or in the oven if you prefer an alternative method. Here are the instructions for each method.

Reheat tortillas in the microwave

  1. Wrap the tortilla in the microwave (can be from the fridge or frozen).
  2. Place the tortilla on a microwave-safe plate.
  3. Heat the tortilla for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Check the temperature of the tortilla and heat it in additional 30-second intervals as needed to reach the desired temperature.

The kitchen paper helps retain moisture so the egg doesn’t get dry or rubbery.

Reheat the tortillas in the oven

  1. Place the tortilla in a baking dish of some kind. Again, the tortilla can be frozen or from the fridge.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  3. Bake the tortilla in the oven for about 10-15 minutes, flipping it halfway so it heats evenly.
  4. Serve and enjoy!

Reheat tortillas on the stove

  1. Heat the skillet over medium heat. You can add a small amount of butter or oil to prevent the tortilla from sticking to the pan. If you add butter, use a minuscule amount.
  2. Heat the tortilla for 2 minutes on each side.
  3. Remember that you are only heating the tortilla and not cooking it again.
