Cinnamon can be purchased as bark from a local spice shop or in powder form, commonly seen in grocery shops. I prefer to buy it in powder form to use it whenever I need it.

12 teaspoon cinnamon to 1 teaspoon vanilla essence is the safest ratio to start with. If you require more, adjust the measurements to suit your needs. The cinnamon powder does not need to be diluted. It can be added to the mixture right away.
If you only have a cinnamon bark, you can either grind it into a powder in a food processor or boil it in a cup of water for at least an hour to extract the scent and fluids.

- Five vanilla bean strands
- 1-quart bourbon (either rum or brandy, whichever is available)
- a tightly sealed jar or bottle
Instructions:
- Allow your vanilla beans to dry after cleaning them.
- Slice the vanilla bean with a knife until the beans are revealed. Don’t cut the vanilla bean all the way through; make sure the beans are exposed enough around the center.
- Then, using your jar or bottle, measure out your vanilla beans. Check to see whether it will fit within if it is saved for a later date. If not, chop it down to size until it fits in the jar.
- Pour the liquor of your choice into your bottle or jar. Pour until the jar is filled and the vanilla beans are completely covered.
- Please give it a little shake to combine everything and ensure that the vanilla absorbs the alcohol.
- Keep the jar or bottle well sealed in a dark, room-temperature location. At least twice a week, give the vanilla mixture a good shake.
- After eight weeks of shaking, use your freshly created vanilla essence. Enjoy!
Vanilla extract prepared at home can be kept for up to a year. You may always refill it with the same booze you used the first time as you use it up.
